It seems it appears unchecked the first time you open the launcher (either from the menu or from the alt+space hotkey), but it still appears with alt+space. i mean, despite being unchecked by default, it DOES open.
What i did is CHECK the option, and UNCHEKING it again, and that worked fine. Now i have it disabled for the hotkey, and still can acces it via the menu.
